Application to restore utilities to Manus Island detention centre rejected

The Papua New Guinea Supreme Court has rejected an application to restore basic services to the now mothballed Manus Island Australian asylum seeker detention centre.
Arthur Stevens reports that lawyers have vowed to appeal the decision.

Delhi enveloped in toxic smog as air quality levels dip severely

India's capital is battling severe air pollution once again. The PM2.5 levels in the city have breached the 900 mark in many areas. The permissible limit is 60.

US President blames Texas mass shooting on "mental health issues"


Speaking to reporters during his multi-nation tour of Asia, President Trump said a Texas mass shooting that left 26 people dead was caused by "mental health issues" and wasn't a "guns situation."

Texas mass shooting linked to “domestic situation"

Officials in the US state of Texas say the gunman who killed 26 people at a church on Sunday had sent threatening messages to his mother-in-law, who had previously attended the place of worship.

The massacre comes just a month after the worst mass shooting in modern U.S. history, when a gunman killed 58 people at a Las Vegas concert.

Domestic dispute likely cause of Texas mass shooting

Texas officials say it is possible the death toll in the mass shooting in Sutherland Springs may rise, as at least 10 of the injured are listed in critical condition.

They also confirm that there was some sort of ongoing domestic dispute between the suspect Devin Patrick Kelley and his wife's family.

Kelly had been in the U.S. Air Force, but was discharged after being convicted of assault on his wife.

More than 700 Indians named in Paradise Papers

The Paradise Papers, more than 13 million files of leaked data, show that more than 700 Indians, including one of Bollywood's biggest actors and a government minister are among the wealthy and powerful individuals connected to offshore tax havens.

The 26 year-old was reportedly discharged from the US Air Force in 2014 after a court-martial over the assault of his wife and child.
