US expresses condolences as Iran lays blame

The U.S. State Department has issued a statement of condolences for the terror attacks in Tehran, in which 12 died.

The statement comes hours after the Iranian government blamed both the U.S. and Saudi Arabia for the violence.

Beijing slams US Dept Defense report on Chinese military plans

Beijing has pushed back against a report by the US Department of Defense that forecasts an increase in China's military ambitions abroad, including in Pakistan.

The Chinese foreign ministry has firmly opposed the report, and criticized it for making remarks it described as "irresponsible."

He's gonna be great - Pres. Trump on FBI pick

U.S. President Donald Trump is praising his pick of Christopher Wray to be the next FBI director.

However, the chairs of the U.S. Senate's Judiciary Committee - which must vote on his nomination - were not told in advance of the president's decision, which may delay the confirmation process.

When the President arrived in Ohio for a speech, reporters shouted at him about the nod.

Two of America's top intelligence officials have refused to say whether they had been asked to influence an ongoing investigation, amid reports that President Donald Trump asked them to push back against the Russia probe.

US Director of National Intelligence Dan Coats told a senate panel he had "never felt pressured" to influence the Russia inquiry, but wouldn't comment on his conversations with the president.

US Attorney General Sessions offered to resign from his post

Director Coats was grilled by Republican Senator Marco Rubio to detail specifics of his conversations with the White House.

Two senior US intelligence officials say they have never felt pressured to intervene in ongoing investigations.

Several US media reports have accused President Donald Trump of intervening with intelligence officials to try to halt an investigation into allegations of collusion between the Trump presidential campaign and Russia.

During a Senate Intelligence Committee hearing, Democrat Senator Mark Warner questioned National Security Agency Director Admiral Mike Rogers on his dealings with the President:

Former head of US intelligence says Russia scandals worse than Watergate

America's former top intelligence official has joined criticism of President Donald Trump, describing investigations into Russian influence as being worse than Watergate.

Mexico: prison riot leaves at least four dead

Four people have died and another six have been wounded in a prison riot that broke out in the northern Mexican state of Tamaulipas. 

According to authorities, two of the victims were state police officers, a third one was a prison security guard, and an inmate also lost his life.

The Director of National Intelligence Daniel Coats is currently testifying in front of Congress, after a Washington Post report that US President Donald Trump tried to enlist him to get the intelligence chief to convince then FBI Director James Comey to back off the Russia investigation.

Mr Comey was fired by the President last month, triggering widespread condemnation from the President's opponents.

Germany to pull troops from Turkey following dispute

Germany's cabinet has approved a plan to relocate about two hundred eighty soldiers to Jordan from an air base in Turkey, following a dispute with the Turkish government.

Italian police say they signalled one of the London attackers to MI5
