Colombia: rescue efforts for survivors continue after deadly avalanche

The search for survivors continues Colombia after an avalanche of water from three overflowing rivers tore through the small city of Mocoa on Saturday night. 

According to government figures the death toll stands at 254, with thousands more still missing.

Senate panel votes on Supreme Court nominee

The nomination of Neil Gorsuch to join the U.S. Supreme Court is set to pass out of the Senate Judiciary Committee, setting up what is expected to be a massive political battle.

To stop a parliamentary tool called the filibuster, Republicans need 8 or preferably 9 Democrats to cross the aisle and support the nomination, a prospect that seems politically unlikely.

Senate Judiciary Committee Chair Charles Grassley had an angry tone while addressing Democrat's political concerns about Judge Gorsuch.

UN criticizes Australia's racism against Aborigines

A United Nations special envoy has criticized Australia's treatment of

10 people killed in St Petersburg Metro Explosions

At least 10 people are thought to be dead after one or more explosions on St Petersburg's metro system in Russia.


Around 50 people are also believed to have been injured and the underground metro service in St Petersburg has been suspended.

Pres. Trump warns unilateral action against North Korea

Senior UK Conservative Talks Up Brexit Conflict Over Gilbraltar

Trump: US 'Will Act Unilaterally' on North Korea if Necessary

President Donald Trump has issued an ultimatum to Beijing - deal with North Korea, or Washington will take unilateral action.

Speaking to the Financial Times newspaper, he said if Beijing is not going to solve the North Korean crisis, the US would do so, but wasn't forthcoming on what such action might look like and whether it would involve a military option. 

The warning comes just days before President Trump meets Chinese President Xi Trump, for their first face to face meeting on Thursday in Florida.
