US Attorney General will recuse himself from probe into Russia Trump contacts

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions will recuse himself from any inquiry into alleged Russian interference in the US 2016 presidential election.

Calls for him to step aside from a probe- and resign completely- mounted after it emerged he had met Russia's envoy to Washington- which appeared to contradict earlier statements under oath.

U.S. President Donald Trump has expressed total confidence in his justice chief, despite the deepending scandal over his administration's alleged contact with Russia.

US AG Sessions says Russian Ambo gossipy

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions says he did not discuss American politics with the Russian ambassador.

He has now recused himself from any investigation into possible Russian interference in the U.S. elections after confirming he did meet briefly with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak.

He now recalls the meeting in his Senate office as covering a trip to Russia over 25 years ago, terrorism and Ukraine, but not the presidential camapaign.

AG Sessions recuses himself from investigations

U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions is recusing himself from any role in investigations into whether the Russians had inappropriate contact with Russian officials. 

Congressional lawmakers are trying to find out how far American intelligence agencies and the FBI have gotten into their investigation into how the Russians tried to influence election 2016.

The Washington Post reportered that counter to what then Senator Jeff Sessions told the Judiciary Committee, he did speak with Russian officials at least twice.

He says he didn't try to mislead anyone.

Pres. Trump remains confident in AG Sessions

U.S. President Donald Trump says he thinks then Senator Jeff Sessions testified truthfully about his contacts with the Russian Government.

Calls are increasing on Capitol Hill for the now U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to recuse himself from any investigation into Russian attempts to meddle in American politics and Democrats want him to resign.

During a tour of a new aircraft carrier, reporters asked President Trump if he remains confident following these revelations.

Number of refugees fleeing South Sudan crosses 1.5 million mark

Violence and famine in South Sudan have driven more than 1.5 million people to flee to neighboring countries, the United Nations refugee agency said Thursday.

NASA Buys Extra Rides to Space Station on Russian Capsules

The US Space Agency NASA has contracted with Boeing for extra rides for astronauts to fly on Russian capsules to the International Space Station. 
NASA has relied on Russia to ferry crews to the Space Station sincethe US space Shuttle fleet was retired in 2011.

U.S. Authorities Bust International Fraud Web

The US Department of Justice or DOJ has uncovered a complex network of
international fraud and money laundering that authorities say conned
six companies and over 170 people out of 13 million dollars. The DOJ
has been investigating the ring since 2011 and indictments unsealed
Wednesday reveal 16 arrests in the case.

Calls mount for U.S. Attorney General to step aside

Top Republicans are joining calls for  U.S. Attorney General, Jeff Sessions, to recuse himself from investigations into whether Russia interfered in the 2016 presidential election.

However, they are stopping short of forcing him to quit, over allegations he lied under oath over his contact with the Russian Ambassador to Washington, last year.

Republicans scramble to contain Russia scandal engulfing Trump administration

Top Republican lawmakers are scrambling to deflect accusations that the U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions perjured himself by failing to reveal the extent of his contact with the Russian Ambassador to Washington, during the presidential election campaign.

House Leader Paul Ryan admitted that Russia tried to interfere in the U.S. election, but insisted there was no evidence that an American had colluded.

Ignoring calls for Jeff Sessions to step aside, Paul Ryan insisted lawmakers meet with ambassadors ' all the time', and the Attorney General should recuse himself only if he becomes the subject of an investigation.

European Parliament Says US Citizens Should Be Denied Visa Free Access

Members of the European Parliament say US citizens should be denied visa-free access to the EU since the US does not allow some EU citizens to enter the United States without a visa.

Top Democrats lead chorus of calls for Sessions to resign over Russia scandal

Calls are mounting for U.S. Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign, for failing to disclose meetings with the Russian ambassador to Washington, while acting as a Trump surrogate and adviser during his election campaign.

Top Democrats have slammed the Trump administration for hiding the truth over its alleged contact with the Russian government last year.

The White House has dismissed reports in the U.S. media that Jeff Sessions met with Russian ambassador Sergey Kislyak twice in 2016, at the same time that US intelligence officials were investigating Russian interference in the presidential election. 

In a scandal that is now engulfing the White House, House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi accused the Trump administration of lying:

Schumer calls for Sessions to resign

Leading Democratic Senator Chuck Schumer has called on Attorney General Jeff Sessions to resign, after it came to light he had lied under oath about having contacts with Russia during Donald Trump's campaign for president.

Mr Schumer said a special prosecutor needs to be appointed to oversee the investigation into links between the Trump team and Moscow.

And in the meantime, he said the US inspector general, who was appointed under President Obama, should probe Jeff Sessions' own actions with regard to the investigation so far.

Former Senator Sessions spoke with the Russian ambassador at least twice over the course of the past year, including in a private conversation in September.

Trump Administration Reports Financial Roadblocks for Border Wall

US President Donald Trump's promise to use existing funds to build a wall on America's border with Mexico has hit a financial roadblock, according to the Reuters news agency.

It says it's seen a document showing that there's only 20 million dollars available to redirect towards the project, enough to cover contracts for prototypes but not to finance construction.

Sweden Brings Back Military Conscription to Combat Perceived Russian Threat

Because of fears over Russian military drills, the Swedish government is bringing back mandatory enrollment in the country's military- also known as a military conscription or draft. 

Four thousand young men and women will be called up for military service at the beginning of next year to serve for nine to twelve months.
