WH PRESS: Transgender Bathroom guideline 'state issue' not federal

President Trump's plan to scrap guidelines which allow transgender students to use bathrooms based on the gender with which they identify continues to ignite debate.

In a Thursday briefing White House spokesman Sean Spicer insisted it was a "states' rights issue" insisting that the original guidance put out by the Obama administration were flawed.

White House walks back Trump comments on nuclear arsenal

The White House is already walking back comments made by U.S. President Donald Trump on expanding the American nuclear weapons arsenal.

U.S. President Donald Trump is promising to use the full force of the American government to stop human trafficking.

Globally, the International Labor Organization estimates that there are 4.5 million people trapped in forced sexual exploitation globally and the U.S. State Department issues an annual report on human trafficking.

US Top Diplomats met with Mexican counterparts

At a joint press conference in Mexico City, US Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly said that there would be no mass deportations, and no use of the US military in the process of removing undocumented immigrants. 

His words came after Secretary Kelly and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met with Mexico's foreign minister and defense chief on Wednesday, and ahead of a meeting with President Pena Nieto on Thursday evening.

Their visit comes after Washington announced it would deport many undocumented immigrants to Mexico if they had entered the United States across the US-Mexico border, even if they are not Mexican.


Ahead of meetings, Mexican officials said that Mexico would not accept unilateral decisions imposed on their country by the US.

Syria peace talks to continue Friday in Geneva

Peace talks on Syria are set to continue later [Friday].

UN mediators in Geneva are hoping the sides in the conflict will agree to face-to-face discussions during the latest round of negotiations on a constitution and elections.

On Thursday, Russia's envoy to the UN described Western and rebel demands for Syrian President Bashar al-Assad to step down as part of deal as "absurd."

Iraqi suicide bomber proves to be a former Guantanamo detainee

The family of the suicide bomber who detonated a car bomb at an Iraqi army base earlier this week says he was a former inmate at Guantanamo Bay.

Abu-Zakariya al-Britani was released from Gitmo in 2004, and subsequently awarded one million dollars in compensation for alleged mistreatment while in the jail.

Sen. McCain traveled to northern Syria
