US Top Diplomats met with Mexican counterparts

At a joint press conference in Mexico City, US Secretary of Homeland Security John Kelly said that there would be no mass deportations, and no use of the US military in the process of removing undocumented immigrants.

His words came after Secretary Kelly and US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson met with Mexico's foreign minister and defense chief on Wednesday, and ahead of a meeting with President Pena Nieto on Thursday evening.

Their visit comes after Washington announced it would deport many undocumented immigrants to Mexico if they had entered the United States across the US-Mexico border, even if they are not Mexican.

Ahead of meetings, Mexican officials said that Mexico would not accept unilateral decisions imposed on their country by the US.

John Kelly tried to allay their concerns:

US Secretary of State Rex Tillerson said that both countries are committed to maintaining law and order along their shared border.

The Trump administration has vowed to hire 10,000 immigration agents, many of whom would be leading security efforts along the border.
