UK PM MAY TO TRAVEL TO U.S.

Trade and security issues are top of the agenda as UK Prime Minister Theresa May travels to the US to meet lawmakers and President Trump.
Mrs May will be the first foreign leader to visit Donald Trump in Washington on Friday.
But on Thursday she'll also hold talks with Republican lawmakers.
It comes as she takes Britain out of the EU and searches for new bilateral trade partners.

AU Foreign Minsters meeting in Ethiopia

Growing concerns about human rights abuses and wide scale protests across Africa will be the focus of a meeting of the Executive Council of the Africa Union.


The executive council is made up mainly of AU foreign ministers and is meeting in Ethiopia ahead of a summit of leaders from the bloc.

US Mexico wall construction complicated

U.S. President Donald Trump is set to sign an executive order directing the construction of a wall between the southern United States and Mexico.

President Trump has repeatedly promised he's going to find a way to get Mexico to pay for the wall, with Mexico's foreign minister expected in the American capital.

British Prime Minister Theresa May has agreed to publish a White Paper, a government document, outlining her objectives ahead of the Brexit talks with the European Union.

Trump launches voter fraud investigation and prepares immigration announcement

US President Donald Trump says he's launching an investigation into voter fraud in the United States, even though there his critics say there is no evidence to support his view that millions of people participate illegally in the country's elections.


He's also poised to announce when he plans to start building a border wall between the United States and Mexico.

UK PM promises Brexit White Paper


The British Government says it will publish a white paper document, detailing its 'bold' plans for Brexit.


Several MPs, including many in the Prime Minister's own party, asked for further details to be provided by way of a formal policy document, setting out proposals for future acts of Parliament.


The move comes after the UK's Supreme Court ruled the Brexit process could only be triggered by a vote in Parliament.


Prime Minister Theresa May told the House of Commons that she recognised there was an appetite for a White Paper.

Head of a 900-year-old Catholic order resigns after dispute with Pope over condom program

The head of a 900-year-old Catholic order has resigned after Pope Francis became aware he was running a condom distribution program.

British lawmakers demand White Paper for Brexit

British lawmakers are calling on the government to publish its negotiating objectives for Brexit, to allow a fuller debate on how Britain leaves the European Union. 

Some MPs from the ruling Conservative party have joined with opposition groups to demand more detail.  It comes after the Supreme Court ruled Tuesday that the government must win parliamentary approval for the Brexit process.

Russia give Syrian rebels draft constitution

Russia's envoy for Syria says he has given opponents of the country's
president Bashar al-Assad a draft constitution in an attempt to hasten
political negotiations.

Alexander Lavrentiev says the document was prepared by Russian

Talks in Brussels Diffuse Tension between Serbia and Kosovo

UK URGED TO TOUGHEN LAWS AGAINST SEXIST WORKPLACE DRESS CODES

The UK government is being urged to review laws into discrimination to end sexist dress code practices in workplaces.

Two committees of MPs have issued a report into the issue after the case of a woman who was sent home from work last year for not wearing high heels.

Their research has found the law is often not applied properly to protect workers from discrimination.

Republican Sen Graham begs Trump to stop claiming voter fraud

A prominent Republican senator has said President Trump should stop making widely debunked claims about voter fraud. 
During a meeting with congressional leaders Trump reportedly said three to five million illegal immigrants cast ballots which cost him victory in the popular vote.
There has been no evidence of fraud in the election.

Trump spokesman: President continues to believe in massive US voting fraud

The White House says there is evidence to support President Trump's claim that millions of people have voted illegally in US elections.

White House stalls on response to Israeli settlements

U.S. President Donald Trump is holding off on responding to Israel's announcement on settlements until he meets with Prime Minister Netanyahu in early February.

The Israeli government has approved the construction of 2,500 units of housing on the occupied West Bank, claiming a massive housing crunch.

The Obama administration said repeatedly additional construction did not help foster peace between the Israelis and Palestinians , but White House spokesman Sean Spicer did not have an answer.
