U.S. President Donald Trump is holding off on responding to Israel's announcement on settlements until he meets with Prime Minister Netanyahu in early February.
The Israeli government has approved the construction of 2,500 units of housing on the occupied West Bank, claiming a massive housing crunch.
The Obama administration said repeatedly additional construction did not help foster peace between the Israelis and Palestinians , but White House spokesman Sean Spicer did not have an answer.
