Tributes paid to murdered MP as her attacker is sentencing to life in prison

A man who shouted "Britain First" and other nationalist slogans as he stabbed a British MP to death has been found guilty of her murder.

53 year old Thomas Mair will never be released from prison after he shot and stabbed 41 year old Jo Cox, a Labour MP in Birstall, West Yorkshire on the 16th June.  The attack occurred just days before the UK voted on whether to leave the European Union.   Mr Mair told police he was a political activist, Nazi memorabilia was found at his home.

Mrs Cox had been campaigning for Britain to remain within the EU at the time of her murder, which police described as an act of terrorism.

Mrs Cox, a mother of two young children, was a well respected MP who had campaigned for many causes including  help for Syrian refugees and programs to counter isolation in the elderly.

Her husband Brendan said he hoped the public would respond to Jo's death by embracing her message of love and tolerance for others.

LABOUR CRITICISES AUTUMN STATEMENT

The UK has lowered its economic growth forecasts as a result of the vote to leave the European Union.

Britain's independent Office for Budget Responsibility now predicts 1.4% growth in 2017, down from an earlier forecast of 2.2%

And over a five year period it expects growth to be 2.4% lower than it would have been without the Brexit vote.

This has been revealed by UK finance minister Philip Hammond who's been unveiling his Autumn Statement - a mini-budget of tax and spending plans.

He's unveiled a series of measures such as extra funding for housebuilding, a boost to the minimum wage, and more spending on infrastructure.

But Shadow Chancellor John McDonnell says he hasn't done enough.
