Jo Cox murder "an act of terror"

A man who shouted the right-wing political slogan "Britain First" before stabbing a British MP to death has been found guilty of her murder.

53 year old Thomas Mair was given a whole life sentence, meaning he will never be released.    He shot and stabbed 41 year old Jo Cox, a Labour MP in Birstall, West Yorkshire on the 16th June, just a few days before the UK voted on whether to leave the European Union.   Mr Mair claimed to police he was a political activist.  Nazi memorabilia was found at his home.

Mrs Cox, a mother of two young children, was a well respected MP who had campaigned for many causes including more help for Syrian refugees and programs to help the elderly cope with loneliness.

The lead investigator in the case, Detective Superintendent Nick Wallen said the murder of Jo Cox had been an act of terror.
