A county in the American state of Virginia has closed all its schools for a day after a public backlash against homework given to children about Islam.

UN reports record number of refugees

A report by the United Nations refugee agency has found that the
number of people forcibly displaced worldwide will "far surpass" a
record 60 million this year.

The UN states that protracted conflicts likes the ones seen in Syria,
Burundi and Ukraine are a major reason for these figures.

Pharmaceutical chief arrested for securities fraud

A judge has approved a $5 million bond for the CEO of pharmaceutical
company Turing who had earlier been arrested on charges of fraud.

Martin Shkreli has pleaded not guilty but prosecutors say he ran a

Friend of San Bernardino attackers arrested on firearms charges

Police in the United States have arrested a friend of the two people who attacked a social services center in San Bernardino 2 weeks ago, killing 14 people.

Obama: No "credible threat" to strike US during Christmas holidays

President Obama says US intelligence has seen no "credible threat" to attack the country during the approaching holiday season.

He was speaking at the National Counterterrorism Center in Washington, where he and his top officials received a briefing.

The President called on the country to remain vigilant against the possibility of a terror strike, and vowed that US intelligence will be working throughout the Christmas and New Year period to guard against any attack.
