New Zealand and the European Union open negotiations on free trade agreement

New Zealand and the European Union have agreed to begin talks toward a free trade agreement after Prime Minister John Key met his EU counterparts in Brussels. 

The European Union is currently New Zealand's third largest trading partner after Australia and China.

US GDP data misses estimates

The United States economy slowed sharply in the third quarter as
businesses cut back on restocking their warehouses.

Gross domestic product was up at a very healthy 3.9% last quarter but
according to the US Commerce Department, the economy in Q3 grew at a
sluggish annualized rate of 1.5%.

Iraq War Inquiry to be released next year

The long awaited British inquiry into the Iraq War is likely to be published in June or July next year according to its author, Sir John Chilcot.

Turkey requested 3 billion euro per year in aid to cooperate with EU over refugee and migrant crisis

The Turkish government wants the 3 billion euro in aid every year from the European Union in exchange for cooperation in the ongoing refugee and migrant crisis - reports the EU Observer.

The EU is pushing to get Turkey to agree to its action plan in order to stem the flow of people leaving Turkish refugee camps to head to the EU.

Latino leaders protest outside GOP debate

Hundreds of protesters gathered near the Republican debate venue in Boulder, Colorado to protest what they called Donald Trump's racist comments about immigrants and especially Mexicans.

The protests were led by top leaders from the Latino community, including former U.S. Secretary of Transportation and Energy Federico Pena.

Pena called Trump's attitude towards Hispanics xenophobic:

GOP Candidates Attack Media, Spare Each Other In Latest Debate

Republican presidential hopefuls took the stage in the US state of
Colorado Wednesday, for a televised debate centered on the the
economy. The top 10 polling GOP candidates tackled topics from fiscal
policy to bankruptcy. Republican front runner Donald Trump was
expected to spar with Neurosurgeon Ben Carson who is catching up in
the polls, but it seems the GOP candidates were more concerned with
attacking mainstream media than the policies of their challengers.

Third U.S. Republican Debate Kicks Off In Colorado

Republican presidential hopefuls took the stage in Colorado Wednesday
for a televised debate centered on the the economy. America's CNBC
hosted the event, which saw the top 10 polling GOP candidates tackle
topics ranging from fiscal policy to banking and bankruptcy. It was a
chance for candidates to move beyond social policies, and display
their knowledge on balancing the books, managing big banks and
supporting small businesses.

Tensions in Zanzibar after election annulment

There's tension in the Tanzanian archipelago of Zanzibar after election results there were annulled.

Claims of voting irregularities come as counting continues in national elections, which have posed the strongest challenge to Tanzania's ruling party in over half a century.

Correspondent Dan Ashby, who's in semi-autonomous Zanzibar, says the nullification has cast doubt over the entire process.
