Talks aimed at resolving the crisis in Ukraine are due to get underway in Berlin on Monday.
They’re being convened jointly by German Chancellor Angela Merkel and French President Francois Hollande, in a fresh bid to bring peace to the country following a pro-Russian uprising in the East a year and a half ago.
Russian President Vladimir Putin has not been invited to Monday’s meeting, after Ukrainian President Petro Poroschenko urged European leaders to isolate him.
Neil Buckley, Eastern Europe editor of the Financial Times, says a recent upswing in violence threatens to derail the so-called Minsk II accord struck earlier this year.
