CAMERON AND MERKEL TALK EU REFORM

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has promised to work with the UK on reform of the EU, and says she won't rule out treaty change if necessary.

She's been hosting UK Prime Minister David Cameron on the latest leg of his shuttle-diplomacy tour of Europe pressing his case for change at the EU.

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has promised to work with the UK on reform of the EU, and won't rule out treaty change.

She's been hosting UK Prime Minister David Cameron on the latest leg of his shuttle-diplomacy tour of Europe pressing his case for change at the EU.

He is campaigning for reforms ahead of a referendum on Britain's membership of the bloc by 2017.

The UK faces opposition from many EU states over its calls to shake-up benefits for migrants.

But speaking in Berlin alongside Ms Merkel, Mr Cameron said he believed he could achieve his goal.

CAMERON CALLS FOR BLATTER TO GO

British Prime Minister David Cameron has issued an explicit call for Sepp Blatter to step down as FIFA President.

Mr Blatter looks set to be re-elected to the role for a fifth term, despite a corruption scandal engulfing his organisation.

Washington DC transport authorities ban issue-related ads

Transport officials for Washington D.C. have voted to ban all issue-related advertising on the city's rail and bus networks.

UK's Serious Fraud Office assessing FIFA material

The City of London Police and the UK's Serious Fraud Office are investigating FIFA corruption links to UK banks and meetings.


It comes amid the Football body's biggest corruption case in its history, with the FA chairman, Greg Dyke, saying that England would consider pulling out of the World Cup if Sepp Blatter were to win another term as FIFA's President.

750 migrants rescued off the Italian coast

Nearly 750 migrants have been rescued in a single operation in the Mediterranean sea.

The Italian coastguard says European Union naval vessels picked them up near Sicily.

The only challenger at the Zurich vote is Prince Ali bin-al Hussein of Jordan.

Mr Blatter is refusing to step down after seven FIFA officials were arrested in Zurich in a US fraud inquiry.

Swiss authorities are also investigating the bidding process for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups which went to Russia and Qatar.

Mr Blatter opened the day's proceedings in Zurich with a call to move beyond the scandal.

UEFA will not support reelection of FIFA's Sepp Blatter says its president

The president of European football's governing body, UEFA (yoo-ay-fa), Michel Platini, says they will not boycott the presidential elections of the international footballing institution, FIFA.

There has been speculation UEFA could do so in the wake of a series of seven arrests in Switzerland and resulted in 14 people including senior FIFA officials being charged by US authorities with racketeering, fraud and money laundering.

Visa threatens to end FIFA sponsorship over corruption allegations

The credit card company Visa has threatened to end it's partnership with FIFA following Wednesday's high-profile arrests in Switzerland.
