UN: Syrian troops prevented civilians fleeing Palmyra

The United Nations says the Syrian government stopped civilians
fleeing Palmyra as Islamic State fighters advanced on the city.

The UN is also expressing concern that the militants will now destroy
the ancient 2000-year-old ruins there.

Nick Harper at the United Nations in New York says the UN's evacuation
claims are being contradicted by the Syria government.

However, the major trade bills - T-TIP, TPP and AGOA - for Europe, Asia and Africa respectively, could still be derailed by legislation on other key, related matters, including currency practices and investor protectors.

CAMERON PLANS ILLEGAL WORKER CRACKDOWN

British Prime Minister David Cameron is revealing plans to seize wages from illegal workers as part of a crackdown on migration.

Next Thursday's Queen's Speech will include legislation to treat the pay of illegal workers as the proceeds of crime.

The government says it is part of a 'tougher but fairer' approach to immigration, as it struggles to bring down net migration numbers.

Critics say the plans are unworkable and won't tackle rising migration anyway since the government can't control the numbers of people arriving from within the European Union.

Steve Ballinger from think-tank British Future says politicians should be more honest about economic migrants.
