OVER 4300 CONFIRMED DEAD IN NEPAL QUAKE

The death toll in Nepal's earthquake has risen past 4300 according to officials.

The United Nations, meanwhile, says 8 million people have been affected by Saturday's quake, and that 1.4 million need food aid.

International aid supplies have started to arrive in Nepal where thousands of people continue to sleep outside.

The UK has sent an RAF plane with aid supplies and British troops.

Rob Davies is a British fireman heading to Nepal to help in the search and rescue operation.

Curfew ordered in Baltimore after violent rioting

The Mayor of Baltimore has ordered a weeklong overnight curfew in the city after violent rioting left more than a dozen police officers injured, two of them seriously.


The riots began just hours after the burial of a 25 year-old black man who died of an unexplained spinal cord injury in police custody.

Governor of Maryland declares State of Emergency over Baltimore violence

The Governor of Maryland has declared a state of emergency after protestors in Baltimore injured several police officers, set cars ablaze and looted shops.

The violence began shortly after the funeral of a  25 year old black man who died in police custody after sustaining a spinal cord injury.

US Supreme Court to hear gay marriage cases

The U.S. Supreme Court is set to hear arguments in four cases which could determine the legality of same sex marriage in all fifty American states.

Currently, same sex marriage is legal in 36 American states, but objectors are passionately fighting to retain the definition that marriage is only between a man and a woman.

UN report: Israeli Actions Killed 44 Palestinians at UN Shelters

A United Nations inquiry has found that "Israeli actions" left at
least 44 Palestinians dead and 227 injured during last year's war in
Gaza.

Police injured in Baltimore riots

Riots have broken out on the streets of Baltimore after the funeral of a 25 year old man who died in police custody from unexplained spinal injuries.

Opening arguments begin in James Holmes trial

Opening arguments have begun in the trial of an American man accused of killing 12 and injuring 70 others after he opened fire in a movie theater in the state of Colorado in 2012.

27 year old James Holmes has pleaded not guilty by reason of insanity.

The victims' loved ones have waited years for the trial to finally begin, as our correspondent Mary MacCarthy reports from the Colorado courthouse.

EU rejects request to send armed peacekeepers into East Ukraine

European Union leaders have declined a request from Ukraine to send military peacekeepers to monitor a ceasefire as fighting continues between government forces and pro-Russian rebels in the East.

Pepsi, Chipotle announce moves to make US products healthier

Two major food companies in the United States are taking moves to improve the ingredients they use in their products.


Pepsi Cola has says it will no longer use the artificial sweetener "aspartame" (PRON:  As-Par-Tame) in its diet soft drink in the United States.


And the Mexican fast-food chain Chipotle is abandoning the use of GMOs in its offerings.

At least 6 and half thousand have been injured.

An international aid response is underway with the death count expected to grow.

Top U.S. and Iranian officials to meet at U.N. anti-nuclear weapons conference

U.S. Secretary of State John Kerry is set to meet with Iran's Foreign
Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif at the United Nations as they continue
to work towards a lasting atomic deal.

An outline for an agreement was reached in Lausanne Switzerland on
April 2nd but the U.S. and five other nations have set a deadline for
June 30th to reach a final deal with Iran.

The opposition Labour Party has unveiled a pledge to exempt most first-time buyers from the stamp duty property tax in an effort to help people onto the property ladder.
