Recovery efforts continue after Germanwings plane crash

Search and recovery teams have resumed their efforts a day after the plane crash in the French Alps that killed 150 people. 

Investigators have already recovered one of the data recorders from Germanwings flight 9525.

Ukraine’s President accepts resignation of powerful regional governor

Ukraine's President has accepted the resignation of powerful regional governor Ihor Kolomoisky.

Russia fails to stop UN extending gay benefits

Russia failed this Tuesday to stop the United Nations extending
benefits to spouses of homosexual staff members.

The proposal was overwhelmingly approved by the General Assembly's
budget committee, which passed additional funding to pay for the

Pentagon declines to comment on reports that U.S. coalition has begun surveillance flights over Tikrit

The Pentagon has declined to comment on reports that the U.S. led coalition battling the Islamic State group has begun surveillance flights over the northern Iraqi town of Tikrit.

The Associated Press news agency is reporting that it's the first time the alliance has taken part in a major offensive there that's being spearheaded by Iranian-backed Shiite militias.

WRAP - Obama: No US troops drawdown from Afghanistan this year

Second Nelson Mandela memoir due next year

A sequel to Nelson Mandela's 1995 autobiography Long Walk to Freedom will be published next year. 

The book will be based in part on a hand-written draft the anti-apartheid leader and former South African president completed before his death.

America says co-operation with Israel will continue despite spying claims

     The American government is refusing to confirm or deny a media report that Israel spied on its controversial nuclear talks with Iran, and then leaked that information to opponents of the government in Congress.
     The Wall Street Journal report has become a major story in the US. State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki told journalists that co-operation with Israel would continue, and without commenting directly on the report, she said there was no need for Israel to leak any information to Congressional opponents.

Uruguay announces it will no longer take Guantanamo Bay inmates


Uruguay's new President has announced the country will no longer accept inmates from the U.S.-run Guantanamo Bay detention camp in Cuba.  

President Tabare Vazquez, who was sworn in on the first of March, added that a decision whether to accept Syrian refugees have been postponed.

Utah's Governor signs firing squad law

Utah's Governor Gary Herbert has signed into law legislation that would allow the use of a firing squad in cases where the state could not obtain the drugs to carry out a death penalty sentence by lethal injection.

The death penalty is still legal in 32 American states, but authorities have been struggling with access to the drugs for lethal injection or executions that have been botched.

Israel is denying a report that it spied on its ally the United States during nuclear talks between major world powers and Iran.

According to a report in a leading American newspaper, the espionage was part of an Israeli effort to undermine an emerging deal.

French President confirms there were no survivors from Alps plane crash

French President Francois Hollande has confirmed that all passengers and crew on a German Wings flight that came down over the French Alps have been killed.

The plane was on its way from Barcelona to Dusseldorf.

He said little is known about what caused the crash.

France's Transport Ministry confirm there are no survivors from Germanwings crash

The French Transport Ministry say there are no survivors from the crash of a Germanwings Airbus A320 that came down in the southern French Alps. 

144 passengers and six crew were on board the airline which was enroute from Barcelona in Spain to the German city of Dusseldorf. 

French President Francois Hollande said the crash was a tragedy, adding that the area was very difficult to access.  

The French Interior Ministry said the plane did issue a distress call shortly before the crash although details are unclear.   There are reports the plane came down rapidly.

Alan Diehl (pronoucned: DEEL) a former air crash investigator with America's National Transportation Safety Board says that is unusual.

150 people are feared dead after a German passenger plane crashed in the southern French Alps.  

The Airbus A320 airliner operated by the airline, Germanwings, was enroute from Barcelona in Spain to the German city of Dusseldorf.  It was carrying 144 passengers and six crew.   

French President Francois Hollande said the conditions of the accident led authorities to believe there are no survivors. 

Aviation Expert Robert Mark told Fox News it seemed the pilots were unaware of any problems ahead of the crash.
