Netanyahu says Congress visit not meant to disrespect Obama

Speaking from Washington, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said his upcoming address to the US Congress is not designed to disrespect President Barack Obama.

During an address at the American Israel Public Affairs Committee or AIPAC, Mr. Netanyahu said the US-Israel relationship is stronger than ever.

He also said he does not want Israel to become a partisan issue.

Republican House Speaker John Boehner directly invited Mr. Netanyahu to address the legislature about nuclear negotiations with Iran without consulting President Obama - a highly unusual move that some viewed as a discourtesy to the President.

The Israeli Prime Minister, like many congressional Republicans, is an outspoken critic of the Obama Administration's Iran strategy, and advocates increasing sanctions on Iran.
