Policy split in US over arming Ukraine

A big policy debate is underway in Washington over whether the United States should arm the Ukrainian government, as fighting 

with pro-Russian separatists continues.

President Obama has been reluctant to get too involved in Ukraine, but pressure is increasing for some kind of military support 

following the collapse of ceasefire talks.

Jordan's King vows 'Relentless War' after ISIS execution of pilot


A relentless war on the Islamic state - the promise from Jordan's King Abdullah after ISIS killed a pilot by burning him alive.

Abdullah, who cut short his visit to the US to return to Jordan, has signalled that the country will take a stronger role in the US-led coalition against the extremists in Syria and Iraq.

Former Al-Qaeda operative accuses Saudi Princes of involvement

A man jailed for life in connection with the attacks on 9/11 has told
lawyers that members of the Saudi royal family supported Al-Qaeda.

Zacarias Moussaoui's testimony was filed in a New York court by
lawyers of attack victims that accuse Saudi Arabia of playing a role
in those attacks.

Ferguson Police Test Alternative to Traditional Guns


The Washington Post is reporting that some Ferguson officers are training with a device called simply THE ALTERNATIVE.

It shoots a ping-pong-ball sized object that can knock a suspect down and cause significant injury, but is not DEADLY.

Net neutrality advocates score major win

Net neutrality advocates are celebrating after the head of the U.S's communications watchdog said internet providers should be regulated as a public utility, like telecom companies.

In an article in Wired, Federal Communications Commission Chairman Tom Wheeler said he was putting to a vote the "strongest open internet protections" the body's ever proposed.

Investigation Underway into New York Rail Crash

Petrobras chief resigns amid corruption scandal

US Defence Secretary nominee backs arming Ukraine

President Obama's choice to become the new United States Secretary of Defence has said he backs providing US arms to Ukraine.

Ashton Carter told his nomination hearing that he was "very much inclined" to supply weapons to help the Ukrainians defend themselves against Russian-backed rebels,

The Obama administration has said it prefers to focus on a political solution to the crisis but several military and diplomatic officials have been pressing the White House to reconsider as Russian aggression shows no sign of abating.

Three reported killed as shell hits hospital in eastern Ukraine

Three people have been reported killed and many more wounded after an artillery shell hit a hospital in eastern Ukraine's militant controlled city of Donetsk.


Fighting in the region has surged in recent weeks as the Russian backed militants have launched an offensive against Ukraine.

Greek PM confident of solution with EU

Greece's new Prime Minister is 'very optimistic' they will be able to negotiate on the country's debt with the European Union.

Alexis Tsipras has been meeting with the presidents of the three European Union institutions in Brussels (The commission, parliament and council).

UAE reportedly suspended anti-ISIS strikes

It's emerged that one member of the coalition launching airstrikes against the so-called Islamic State suspended its participation, following the capture of a Jordanian pilot.

The United Arab Emirates is reportedly concerned about the safety of its military personnel.

UK government appoints New Zealand judge to head child abuse inquiry

The UK has appointed New Zealand judge Lowell Goddard as the head of a new inquiry into historical child sex abuse in England and Wales...

She will be the third head of the inquiry, after two former selections quit amid concerns over establishment links.

Investigation begins into NY train crash that kills 7


At least seven people are dead and a dozen injured after a New York commuter train caught fire when it hit a car at a leveo crossing during the Tuesday evening rush hour.  

The train with around 800 passengers hit the vehicle, a Jeep Cherokee near Valhalla around twenty miles outside of New York.   Six people on board the train were killed along with the Jeep's female driver.  The car was pushed for some distance before the vehicle and the front carriage of the train caught fire.

UN calls EU asylum system 'very dysfunctional'

New figures show Britons have 50 per cent chance of developing cancer

A British cancer charity says that one in two people in the UK will be diagnosed with cancer at some point in their lives. 

The new analysis by Cancer Research UK replaces an estimate that one in three people would develop cancer.  The change has been put down people living longer as Catherine Drew reports.
