Arab-American group blames “American Sniper” for rise in Islamophobia

An Arab-American civil rights organization claims that the film "American Sniper" has led to a rise in Islamophobia in the U.S.

The American-Arab Anti-Discrimination Committee or ADC says it has documented an outpouring of violent, anti-Muslim messages on social media sites.

Argentine President wants to dissolve intelligence body



The President of Argentina has proposed a bill to dissolve the country's domestic intelligence service, known as SI, Secretariat of Intelligence.

The move comes following the suspect death of a prosecutor accusing the country's leaders of involvement in a bombing.

Russian hacker suspected to be extradited to the US

A Russian citizen facing charges for major hacking offenses will be extradited to the US.

A court in the Netherlands gave the approval on Tuesday to transfer Vladimir Drinkman to New Jersey, despite Russian requests to try him in his own country.

Clemency appeal in Georgia death penalty case

Attorneys for Warren Lee Hill are petitioning the George State Board of Pardons and Parole for clemency, saying to carry out the death penalty against an intellectually disabled man would be unconstitutional.

The 54-year-old Georgia man is set to be executed within hours (around 7pm  East Coast time) for two murders.

New York officials defend snow storm reaction

New York City's Mayor and the state's Governor have hit back at claims they over-reacted ahead of the snow storm that's hit northeast America.

They shutdown public transport and kept cars off the roads - but the city was spared the worst of weather.

The City's Mayor Bill de Blasio though said New York had "dodged a bullet".

New York state Governor Andrew Cuomo said he was sending extra snow clearly vehicles to the hardest hit parts of Long Island.

US EAST COAST SHUTDOWN DESPITE LESS SNOW THAN FEARED

New York city remains shut down despite less snowfall than expected.

Driving is banned in New York for non-emergency vehicles and many businesses have closed in anticipation of the storm.

It could still dump several feet of snow in areas up the US east coast - affecting tens of millions of residents.

A state of emergency's been declared in New York state, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

But as William Denselow reports from New York city - so far the storm has been much milder than feared.

Inquiry opens into death of former Russian spy poisoned in London

A public inquiry into the death of former Russian spy Alexander Litvinenko opens in London on Tuesday.

NORTH EAST US DEALS WITH HEAVY SNOWFALL

70TH ANNIVERSARY OF AUSCHWITZ LIBERATION

Holocaust survivors are taking part in memorial events at Nazi concentration camp Auschwitz, 70 years after it was liberated.

The former extermination camp is the world's biggest Jewish cemetary.

More than one million people were killed at the site in Poland during World War II.

Holocaust survivor Arak Hersch has returned to Auschwitz to mark the anniversary and remembers fellow prisoners committing suicide by touching the camp's electric fence.

US announces charges against Russian spy ring in New York

US federal authorities on Monday charged three Russian nationals for spying on the US and trying to recruit New York City residents as intelligence assets. 


The case was announced Monday by the US Attorney General and FBI officials, following the arrest of one of the defendants in New York.
