US EAST COAST SHUTDOWN DESPITE LESS SNOW THAN FEARED

New York city remains shut down despite less snowfall than expected.

Driving is banned in New York for non-emergency vehicles and many businesses have closed in anticipation of the storm.

It could still dump several feet of snow in areas up the US east coast - affecting tens of millions of residents.

A state of emergency's been declared in New York state, New Jersey, Connecticut, Rhode Island, Massachusetts and New Hampshire.

But as William Denselow reports from New York city - so far the storm has been much milder than feared.
