Israel closes holy site to Muslims, Jews after shooting attack

Israeli Police have shot dead a Palestinian man they suspect of attempting to kill an Israeli activist known for pushing for greater access for Jews at a flash-point religious site in Jerusalem.

Jews know the site as the Temple Mount, Muslims as Haram al-Sharif.

Palestinian leader Mahmoud Abbas called the incident 'a declaration of war'.

Ebola nurse defies orders to remain in self-quarantine

A nurse in the United States recently back from fighting Ebola in West
Africa has defied calls for her to remain at home under
self-quarantine.

Having tested negative for Ebola twice Kaci Hickox says she's not a
risk to the American people but officials are seeking legal action to
keep her in isolation.

World Bank confirms $100M for Ebola fight

The World Bank has announced it will spend $100 million to fund the fight against the Ebola virus.

The World Health Organization has confirmed more than 13,700 cases, with a jump of over 3,000 in the past week.

US economy grows 3.5% in 3rd quarter

The US economy grew by 3.5% between July and September, according to
the latest GDP data.

The third quarter figure is more than a percent down on the previous
three months.

Russia, Ukraine and EU trilateral gas talks stall into another day

Sweden officially recognising Palestinian State

NATO monitors 'unusual' spike in Russian warplane activity

NATO has been tracking Russian warplanes over the Atlantic, Black Sea and Baltic, in what the alliance says is an unusual spike in activity not seen by Russia's military in recent years.


Though a spokesman stressed their had been no violation of NATO airspace, the flights come at a time of heightened tension between Russia and the West.

France denies agreeing to deliver warships to Russia

France has denied claims that it will be delivering a controversial warship to Russia in November.

Earlier this week, Russia's Deputy Prime Minister said Russia had been invited to receive the warship on November 14th.

But France says the the conditions for the warship's delivery have still not been met.

President Obama hails efforts of US medical staff in treating Ebola

US President Barack Obama says the country may continue to see individual cases of infection by the Ebola virus until the outbreak in West Africa is contained.

With the White House careening from crisis to crisis, many in Washington are speculating that the upcoming mid-term elections is the perfect time to replace some of the overworked members of the foreign policy team.

The speculation comes as criticism of the Obama Administration's handling of global crises rises.


Pres. Obama thanks 'hero US health workers' for West Africa Ebola efforts

President Obama has praised American healthcare workers for their ongoing service in Ebola-affected countries in West Africa. 

The President was introduced by Dr. Kent Brantly, an Ebola survivor who contracted the virus in Liberia. 

Speaking at the White House Mr Obama reiterated that the key to stopping the deadly virus was to attack it "at its source".

The US Federal Reserve has ended its easy-money stimulus program,

US troops returning from Ebola-affected areas face quarantine

American troops helping to tackle the Ebola crisis in West Africa will be quarantined on their return.

It means that US military personnel will be subjected to a more restrictive regime than civilian health workers.

The decision, now approved by US Defence Secretary Chuck Hagel, comes amidst an ongoing debate about how to deal with those returning from Ebola-affected areas.

Ukraine, Russia and EU gas talks get underway in Brussels

Zamiba's President dies in a London hospital

Zambia's President Michael Sata has died in a London hospital on Tuesday evening, where he had been receiving medical treatment.


Mr Sata was elected in 2011 and made a name for himself with his confrontational style of leadership earned him the nickname 'King Cobra'.


It is not certain who will succeed the president, the matter is likely to be discussed when the Zambian cabinet meets on Wednesday.

Ebola Nurse in Maine Rejects Home Quarantine Rules

An American nurse for Doctors Without Borders, who was forcibly held in isolation in New Jersey after returning from treating Ebola patients in Sierrra Leone, says she won't obey instructions to stay at home in the state of Maine for 21 days.

Kaci Hickox was pulled aside at Newark Airport on Friday under new regulations, but has showed no symptoms of the virus.
