The United States military has struck and destroyed three Iranian oil tankers in the Gulf of Oman, in retaliation for what it called unprovoked Iranian ballistic missile attacks on two American warships.
The US Central Command says the tankers were part of a shadow network worth billions of dollars that funds Iran's Revolutionary Guard and its regional proxies.
Iran has accused Washington of deliberately targeting civilian infrastructure, while the White House says there are currently no negotiations between the two sides.
