UK Among Growing Number To Impose Sanctions On Israeli Settlements

The UK Government's announced a comprehensive series of trade sanctions on Israeli settlements in the West Bank, including banning the import of goods from the region.

Foreign Secretary Ed Miliband confirmed other countries, including Canada and France will follow suit.

It follows deeply controversial Israeli plans to build more settler homes in a disputed area that critics argue would cut the West Bank in two.

Mr Miliband said the UK government maintained its support for the two state solution that would allow an independent Palestine to exist alongside Israel.

In a statement to the Commons the Foreign Secretary described himself as a ‘proud British Jew’, announcing a shift in UK policy toward Israel and accused settlers of carrying out what he called "ethnic cleansing of Palestinians"...

OUT: “......is it powerless. <NATSOT VOCAL AGREEMENT>.”

Ahead of upcoming elections in Israel, the country's president described what the UK's doing as "a gross interference" in a sovereign nation. The Israeli Foreign Minister also announced 'counter measures' against the UK, including the closure of the British Consulate in Jerusalem.
