The World Health Organization has confirmed the Ebola outbreak in the Democratic Republic of Congo is now the largest the country has ever recorded, with more than three thousand six hundred confirmed cases and nearly sixteen hundred deaths.
The epidemic, driven by the Bundibugyo strain of Ebola for which there is no licensed vaccine, has spread across five provinces and forty-nine health zones since it was declared in mid-May.
Health workers in the affected areas have been striking over unpaid wages, disrupting efforts to contain the disease.
