Iran's Foreign Minister Abbas Araghchi said on Sunday that Tehran will not return to direct negotiations with the United States until Washington honours the interim deal the two sides signed in June.
The diplomatic impasse is compounded by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's rejection of US President Donald Trump's 15-point Gaza peace plan — with a Hamas spokesperson calling on Washington to bring pressure to bear on the Israeli leader.
When the first stage of the plan was announced about a week ago, a US official warned that President Trump would be deeply unhappy if Israel stood in the way of the process.
