Indian opposition leader Rahul Gandhi was detained by police on Tuesday during a sit-in outside Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's residence, demanding the resignations of the prime minister, the home minister and the education minister over the government's handling of youth protests.
The detention came as the Indian Parliament was adjourned for a second consecutive day, with opposition members demanding a debate on the education crisis that has brought hundreds of young demonstrators onto the streets of New Delhi.
The government says it is open to parliamentary discussion but has accused the opposition Congress party of orchestrating the so-called Cockroach protest movement.
