Senior Hamas officials have confirmed they have reached a deal with Israel on disarmament and a gradual withdrawal of Israeli forces from the Gaza Strip, hours after US President Donald Trump announced the agreement.
Israel has not yet publicly responded to the deal, though a US official says Israeli negotiators were consulted at every stage. Israel has long been deeply sceptical that Hamas would ever agree to give up its weapons or relinquish control of Gaza.
Eylon Levy, a former Israeli government spokesperson, says there is reason for caution.
