Former White House aide claims furious Trump assaulted Secret Service agent on Jan 6th

A former top assistant to Donald Trump's White House Chief of Staff has claimed that the President attempted to assault a Secret Service officer who refused to drive him to Capitol Hill on the day of the deadly riots by his supporters last year.

Cassidy Hutchinson told the House of Representatives Select Committee investigating the January 6th uprising that President Trump was infuriated when his security team told him it was too dangerous for him to join armed demonstrators who were storming the Congressional compound.

She claimed that at one point, the President attempted to grab the steering wheel of "The Beast", the armoured limousine that was taking him back to the White House.

Ms. Cassidy did NOT witness those events herself, but was relating what she had been told about them by a colleague.

She also claimed that President Trump later threw a plateful of food at the wall of the Oval Office leaving ketchup stains, but she did not witness that event herself either.

On the morning of the January 6th rally, she claimed President Trump knew members of the crowd were carrying weapons, but he wanted them admitted to the event and objected when the Secret Service attempted to refuse them entry.

Congresswoman Liz Cheney, the senior Republican on the Committee, asked Ms. Cassidy to clarify some testimony contained in an earlier, taped deposition.
