UK BUDGET DAY; FURLOUGH TO BE EXTENDED

UK Chancellor Rishi Sunak delivers a crucial budget later, with more support for the economy as it exits lockdown measures.

A furlough scheme in which the government supports millions of people's wages will be extended until the end of September - at a cost of billions of dollars.

The opposition Labour Party says Rishi Sunak should have announced the extension sooner to provide certainty to employers.

The Chancellor is expected to warn of tough decisions to come as the UK recovers from the economic shock of the pandemic and the huge public spending it's required.

Neil Shearing, an economist and former Treasury adviser, thinks the furlough extension is sensible.
