U.S lawmakers are holding high-level meetings in a bid to finding a
compromise that will end the government shutdown.
Funding for federal agencies in the U.S. expired on Friday after the
senate failed to pass a measure that would temporarily fund the
government.
These high-level talks followed a bipartisan meeting between of around
20 senators on Sunday.
Lawmakers Lisa Murowski and Susan Collins say it's vital the senior
members of each party meet to try and hammer out a solution.

The issue of immigration remains a major sticking point between
Republicans and Democrats. The Dems want an agreement that immigrants
brought to the U.S. illegally as children will be protected while the
Republicans don't want to discuss the issue during the government
shutdown.
Republican senator Lindsey Graham says he wants to see the issue tackled soon.
