Pres. Trump stuns many with statements on Charlottesville

Many are trying to digest the 23-minute impromput press conference by U.S. President Donald Trump, during which he said the protestors on the far conservative right were the same as the counter-protestors from the far left.

The origins of the protest was the decision by the city of Charlottesville to remove the statue of General Robert E. Lee, who led the Confederate Army during the Civil War.

Others noted there were quiet counter protests led by mainline protestant pastors, standing arm-in-arm with civil rights campaigners such as Cornel West.

President Trump focused on the violence.

OUT: ...the way it is."

Cities around the U.S. have decided to remove statues with ties to the Civil War, some to private land, some entirely.

In an increasingly tense exchange with the press, President Trump is now suggesting that this means all statues of political leaders, including founding fathers George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, might be removed.

IN: "Excuse me!
OUT: ...absolutely unfairly."
DUR: 38

Unwilling to call the intentional ramming of counter-protestors domestic terrorism, President Trump was willing to denounce the driver of the car, James Alex Fields.

IN: "Well, I think...
OUT: ...is a murderer."
