A widely-anticipated report by Democrats in the US Senate accuses the CIA of misleading the American public about the torture techniques unleashed against suspected members of Al Qaeda in the aftermath of the September 11th attacks.
President Obama says the report shows that the CIA's techniques during the era of President George W. Bush "did significant damage to America's standing in the world".
The report was released at the direction of Democrat Dianne Feinstein who heads the US Senate Intelligence Committee.
