POLICE ARREST OPPOSITION LEADERS IN TANZANIA

Police have arrested the entire leadership team of the main opposition party in Tanzania for planning a day of protest against the President.

The Chadema party has instructed followers to disobey a ban on political meetings and rallies, and stand up against what it says is a 'growing dictatorship'. But the police say the protesters will feel the full force of the law.

Dan Ashby reports from Dar es Salaam.

APPLE ORDERED TO PAY 13BN EURO IRISH TAX BILL

Apple should pay Ireland €13bn ($14.5bn) in back taxes, according to a landmark ruling from the European Commission.

A three year investigation has concluded tax arrangements with Ireland enabled the tech giant to pay much lower tax rates than other businesses.

That amounts to illegal state aid under EU rules.

UK AND FRANCE MEET OVER CALAIS ROW

The British and French interior ministers are meeting in Paris amid calls for migrants in northern France to be able to lodge UK asylum claims there.

The president of the Calais region says there should be a 'hotspot' in France at which migrants can lodge claims - rather than having to try to get to Britain first.

The UK says the idea is a 'complete non starter'.

The row threatens the 2003 Le Touquet deal between France and Britain which allows the UK to carry out border checks in Calais, and France to do the same in Dover in southern England.
