Opening Statements due in Trump hush money trial

Man sets himself on fire outside Trump trial

A man has set himself on fire outside of the court where Donald Trump's hush money trial is underway.


The incident unfolded on Friday in New York, moments after jury selection had wrapped up.


Twelve jurors and six alternates have now been selected - the trial is expected to begin on Monday.

Israel strikes Iran: official says US not involved

US Secretary of State Antony Blinken says the United States was not involved in any offensive operations following an apparent Israeli strike on Iran. 


Speaking at a G7 meeting in Italy, Secretary Blinken called for de-escalation, but refused to confirm if Washington had prior notice of the attack.

US officials have told American media that an Israeli missile did hit Iran overnight, though Iranian state media is downplaying reports of an attack.

Nigerian man attempts to break chess world record on Times Square

A Nigerian chess player is trying to break a world record for the
longest chess game marathon.
29 year old Tunde Onakoya has set up his chess table on Times Square
and will need to play the game nonstop for 58 hours to have his name
inscribed in the Guinness World Record books.

India's poll body rejects reports of malfunctioning electronic voting machines

India's poll body has dismissed reports that some electronic voting machines being used in the country's election process are prone to malfunctioning.
 

This comes after reports suggested that during a mock poll drill in the southern state of Kerala, electronic voting machines erroneously recorded votes in favour of Prime Minister Modi's ruling Bharatiya Janata Party.

Voting in the two-month long election began on Friday, with Modi widely expected to win when results are announced in June.
