California to force businesses to disclose carbon footprint

The US state of California is set to implement legislation forcing large companies to disclose their carbon footprints.

California Governor Gavin Newsom says he will sign a new bill mandating businesses to publish their greenhouse gas emissions.

This comes during Climate Week, which coincides with the United Nations General Assembly.

Guterres says world leaders need to rescue SDG's

United Nations Secretary General, António Guterres has warned that the
Sustainable Development Goals are off-track.
Speaking in the General Assembly hall in New York on Monday, Guterres
said the time has come for a global plan to rescue the SDG's ahead of
the 2030 deadline.
World leaders adopted the SDGs in 2015 with the promise of leaving no
one behind.
The goals include ending extreme poverty and hunger, ensuring access
to clean water and sanitation, as well as green energy.

RUSSEL BRAND'S UK COMEDY TOUR CANCELLED

The British comedian and media personality, Russel Brand, has had his comedy tour cancelled by promoters -- after allegations of rape, sexual assault, and emotional abuse were reported by UK media at the weekend.

London's police service says it's received at least one report of sexual assault from 2003, and is urging others to come forward.

Little progress in auto strike negotiations

US-Iran prisoner swap underway, as former detainees board flight

Five American citizens held captive for years in Iran are flying back to the United States as part of a prisoner swap.

The four men and one woman, who also hold Iranian passports, took off from Iran's capital Tehran on Monday, en route to Washington via Doha. 

The deal was mediated by Qatar, and follows the transfer of $6 billion in Iranian oil revenue funds frozen in South Korea.

Investigations Continue As Russel Brand Denies Allegations

More women have come forward with claims about comedian and actor Russel Brand.

The Times Newspaper, which first reported the story, says it's working to verify new allegations.

Mr Brand has denied claims of rape and sexual assault, and says any relationships have always been consensual.

A number of investigations have been launched by TV Production companies and broadcasters who used to have ties to the comedian.

The initial allegations date from 2006 - 2013 when he was at the height of his fame.

Thousands participate in New York climate march
