President Felix Tshisekedi made the appeal in a televised address that comes on the heels of the seizure of Congolese territory by rebels of the M23 movement in the east of the country. Delhi bans polluting cars and trucks as air pollution spikes

Stocks continue sell-off on Wall Street from hawkish Fed comments

U.S. stocks continued to tumble, as Wall Street still reels from
Wednesday's comments by the Federal Reserve Chair.

Jerome Powell said hopes for a policy pivot were "premature", after
the central bank delivered a fourth consecutive interest rate hike of
75 basis points.

IEA warns Europe against energy complacency

French bank BNP Paribas posts better Q3 results than expected

French banking giant BNP Paribas posted a higher-than-expected net profit in the third quarter of the year.

UK court hands out penalty of more than $300m to Glencore subsidiary over bribery offences


A London court has ordered a British subsidiary of Glencore to pay a total penalty of more than 300 million US dollars in a bribery case.

Glencore Energy UK Limited, part of the global mining and trading giant, pleaded guilty to bribery offences in relation to its operations in Africa.

US President Joe Biden warns of country descending down "path of chaos" after Midterms

Bank of England: UK facing longest recession since records began


The Bank of England is warning that the UK is facing its longest recession on record, which will drag on into the first half of 2024.

The UK's central bank also raised interest rates by 0.75 percent on Thursday - its biggest hike in more than three decades.

EU welcomes Ethiopia cessation of hostilities agreement

The European Union has welcomed an agreement to cease hostilities struck after peace talks in South Africa between the government of Ethiopia and rebel authorities in the Tigray region. 

The United Nations says tens of thousands of lives are believed to have been lost in the conflict, and warns more than five million people are in need of humanitarian assistance in Tigray.
