Nigeria's crude oil production has dropped for the third consecutive month.

 

The government says it's affecting its revenue earnings.

Bank of England steps up intervention

The Bank of England has stepped up its emergency intervention to calm the UK economy.


It says it will buy more government bonds to try to stabilise market conditions.


This comes following Chancellor Kwasi Kwarteng's mini-budget last month, which saw the pound plummet to record lows against the dollar.

G7 leaders set to hold virtual talks with Ukraine's Zelenskyy

G7 leaders including US President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron are set to hold virtual talks with their Ukrainian counterpart in the wake of widespread Russian missile strikes on Ukraine.


The G7 is made up of the European Union, the UK, Germany, Italy, France, the US, Canada and Japan.


Leaders are due to meet via videoconference at 12:00GMT.

BANK OF ENGLAND LAUNCHES FURTHER EMERGENCY MARKETS INTERVENTION

The Bank of England has expanded its emergency bond-buying programme to try and shore up confidence in markets.

It initially launched the measures after the UK government's tax-cutting mini budget.

The Bank is warning an ongoing rout in the gilts market poses a "material risk to UK financial stability".

UN states meet on Russia’s annexation of Ukraine territories

An emergency session is being held at the United Nations General
Assembly to debate what a number of countries say is Russia's illegal
annexation of Ukrainian territories.

Referenda have recently held referenda in four parts of eastern and
southern Ukraine. Moscow says the voting showed people wanted to join
Russia but a number of nations say the referendums were a sham.

Putin vows tough response to attacks 'against Russia'

Russian President Vladimir Putin has vowed a harsh response to what he called 'terrorism against Russia' following an explosion on the bridge to annexed Crimea. At least ten people were killed in attacks across Ukraine early on Monday, in which the capital Kyiv was targeted for the first time in months. Air France and Airbus go on trial over 2009 Rio-Paris plane crash

The trial begins today / Monday / October 10 of Air France and Airbus for involuntary manslaughter over the crash in 2009.

It was en route from Rio to Paris and went down in the Atlantic Ocean, killing all 228 people on board.

English barristers vote to end strike after government offer

Criminal barristers in England and Wales have voted to end their long-running strike after accepting a government pay offer.


Lawyers will return to work this week following more than a month of industrial action.


Hundreds of trials have been delayed due to the strikes.

Ukraine's capital Kyiv has been hit by a series of explosions which officials say were Russian missile strikes.

There have been attacks in several other locations across Ukraine.
