China locks down biggest city since Shanghai due to COVID

Chengdu has become the largest Chinese city in months to be locked down due to a COVID-19 outbreak.

On Thursday, the city recorded 157 new infections. Around 21 million people have been ordered to stay indoors.

As Patrick Fok reports in Beijing, it's the latest sign that authorities are willing to sacrifice the economy in pursuit of "Zero-Covid."

Dow snaps four day cold streak

U.S. stocks ended a four day cold streak with the Dow Jones kicking
off the new month in positive territory.

Investors have been spooked by hawkish comments from the Federal
Reserve in recent days and fears that rising interest rates will hurt
the economy.

UN nuclear inspectors "to remain" at Zaporizhzhia nuclear plant

UN experts are set to remain at the Zaporizhzhia nuclear power plant in Ukraine after uncovering evidence of violations to the site's physical integrity.


It was the first time nuclear inspectors had been able to reach the facility which is now under Russian control, but staffed by Ukrainian technicians who have claimed they are being held under duress.


It's reported that between 5 and 12 UN experts will remain at the plant, though for how long is unclear.


Reporter Sergio Olmos has spent the day in Zaporizhzhia where the head of the IAEA Rafael Grossi spoke to reporters.

UK PM Boris Johnson pledges $800 million towards new nuclear power plant

Boris Johnson has pledged over $800 million to finance a new nuclear power plant in the UK.


French energy company EDF says Sizewell C will likely cost over $20 billion dollars overall and will take years to construct.


But when it's finished it could generate 3.2 gigawatts of electricity which would be enough to power about six million homes.

Texas sets sights on a new destination for migrant buses - Chicago

Chicago has become the latest Democrat-run city to receive migrants bused up from Texas.

The first group arrived in the windy city on Wednesday.

The Republican Governor of Texas Greg Abbott has been sending busloads of migrants north for months -  protesting what he sees as the Biden administration's failure to secure the southern border.

Prince of Wales Among High Profile Guests at Rwanda's Baby Gorilla Festival

Thousands of UK rail staff set to strike through September

Both the ASLEF and TSSA unions have announced their members will strike next month.


The rail strikes scheduled for the 15th and 26th of September will cause huge chaos and disruption for passengers across the UK.
