S.Korea, US to Hold Drills in Response to Pyeongyang Threat

South Korea and the United States plan to kick off regular combined military drills next week, according to local media.

This comes as North Korea continues to dial up the pressure on the Korean Peninsula with regular missile tests.

President Biden will travel to Alabama on Tuesday to visit a factory that produces Javelin anti-tank missiles.


The White House says he will thank workers there for the extraordinary contribution those missiles have made to Ukraine's defense.

Amazon workers reject union bid at warehouse in New York

Workers at an Amazon facility in Staten Island, New York have overwhelmingly rejected a unionization effort - just a month after workers at another Amazon warehouse made history by becoming the first to unionize.

Pressre mounts on Russia over civilian evacuations from Mariupol

The White House is urging Russia to allow civilian evacuations to continue from a besieged steel plant in the Ukrainian Black Sea port of Mariupol.


Though around 100 evacuees did reach safety within the last 24 hours, the Avostal factory has again been shelled by the Russians.


Hundreds of people are trapped, living in tunnels beneath it.

Biden administration invites Pacific leaders to Washington

The Biden administration says it is determined to "do more" to ramp up diplomatic and economic ties with Pacific island nations and has invited regional leaders to the White House later this year.

Ukraine claims Russians have resumed shelling of Mariupol steel plant

Ukrainian officials say the Russians have started shelling a besieged steel plant in the city of Mariupol where hundreds of civilians remain trapped.


The Azovstal plant has been the last bastion of Ukrainian efforts to resist a full Russian takeover of the city.


Ukrainian commanders say the shelling resumed shortly after a first batch of civilians were successfully evacuated from tunnels beneath the complex.
