Prime Minister Boris Johnson says UK will always defend Ukraine's right to choose its own future

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson says Vladimir Putin must fail in his attempts to invade Ukraine.


In a statement addressed to the nation, he said the UK would stand by Ukraine and do whatever it could to help.

Mixed reaction in Russia after Putin launches military assault on Ukraine

World leaders have been quick to condemn Russian President Vladimir Putin's actions in launching a large-scale assault on Ukraine.


Both NATO and the European Union have pleaded for him to turn his troops around and to stop firing missiles at Ukrainian military targets.


And there have been mixed reactions to the attack from inside Russia, as Julia Chapman reports from Rostov in the southern region of the country.

US stands with Ukraine after Russia mounts large-scale military assault

The US says it will stand with Ukraine as it faces a full-scale military assault from Russia.


The Whitehouse released a statement stating that US President Joe Biden had been in contact with his Ukrainian counterpart Volodymyr Zelensky and that the US administration strongly condemns Putin's actions.


President Zelensky also asked Biden to call on the leaders of the world to speak out against the Russian attacks on Ukraine.


The US president will now be considering what action it should take against Russia as our US correspondent Simon Marks reports.

NATO has no plans to send troops to Ukraine

Amid a Russian attack on Ukraine, the NATO defensive alliance is planning to increase troop numbers on its Eastern flank. 


But Secretary General Jens Stoltenverg confirmed there would be no NATO boots on the ground in Ukraine -- because the country is not a member of the alliance.

NATO activates defense plans in response to Russia attack on Ukraine

NATO General-Secretary Jens Stoltenberg has condemned the actions of Russian President Vladimir Putin in Ukraine.


At a press conference, he demanded Russian withdraw its troops and cease its military attack on Ukraine.

Repatriation flight from New Delhi forced to return as Ukraine closes airspace

In dramatic late-night speech, Zelensky tells Ukrainians to brace for war

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky says he believes Russian President Vladimir Putin has now approved plans to launch a full-scale invasion of his country.


In a speech to the Ukrainian people, he urged them to brace for an attack, and said he had not been able to reach the Russian leader by phone on Wednesday.


The White House is refusing to comment on whether plans have been made to provide security arrangements for the Ukrainian leader in the event of an invasion.
