U.S. lawmakers are commemorating the events of January 6th last year, when a pro-Trump mob attacked the Capitol.


U.S. President Biden condemned former president Donald Trump, accusing him of promoting lies and tearing down democracy.

US child hospitalizations at record numbers as country battles Omicron surge

On first anniversary of Capitol insurrection, Biden says American democracy remains imperilled

President Biden has issued a dire warning of the peril facing American democracy on the first anniversary of the January 6 uprising by former President Donald Trump's conspiracy theory-believing supporters.


Speaking at the Capitol exactly a year after the deadly riot, President Biden warned Americans that the country's democratic freedoms and its core institutions remain under threat and cannot be taken for granted.

Former President Donald Trump scrapped plans to hold a press conference today.


The Republican leader in the Senate Mitch McConnell issued a statement calling last year's riot "a disgraceful scene antithetical to the rule of law".  


But he also said it was "stunning" to see Democrats trying to exploit the one year anniversary.

Disappointing December for UK retailers, according to new footfall data

Ghislaine Maxwell's lawyers seek new trial after bombshell revelation about juror

Lawyers for Ghislaine Maxwell are calling for her to face a new trial on sex trafficking charges after the judge in her case agreed to investigate possible jury misconduct.


Prosecutors told the judge on Wednesday that a juror may have failed to disclose that he was a victim of past sexual abuse, possibly impacting the guilty verdict in the case.

CDC panel recommends Pfizer boosters for 12 to 15-year-olds

Kids as young as 12 years old could soon be rolling up their sleeves for a Pfizer booster shot after an advisory panel to the Center for Disease Control and Prevention on Wednesday recommended the third jab for adolescents.

Djokovic's Australian visa cancelled, ordered to leave Melbourne immediately

Grammy awards postponed amid Omicron surge

Justice Department work not yet done, one year after January 6th Capitol attack

U.S. Attorney General Merrick Garland spoke on the eve of the anniversary of the January 6th attack on the Capitol.

He said the Justice Department's investigation has led to the arrest of more than 725 defendants across the U.S. for their roles, of which 145 defendants have pleaded guilty.

Garland said the search for justice continues, and he appealed for more information from members of the public to help identify more people involved that day.
