Olympic torch relay to be cancelled in Osaka amid virus spike

Officials say a section of the Tokyo Olympic torch relay scheduled to be held in the City of Osaka will be cancelled.


The announcement comes after the prefecture reported 616 new COVID-19 cases on Thursday, surpassing Tokyo for a third day.

Emotional testimony from George Floyd's girlfriend about the couple's addiction struggles

US markets climb on tech gains, Biden infrastructure plans


Wall Street closed the first trading day of the month on a very high note, as investors bet on an economic recovery and shrugged off an increase in weekly unemployment benefits.


All three benchmark indices finished up with the S&P surpassing the 4,000 threshold for the first time ever.

Pfizer-BioNTech vaccine effective for at lest 6 months

AU calls for urgent action after Mozambique jihadist attack

The African Union has called for urgent and coordinated international action after a jihadist attack that killed dozens and uprooted thousands on the northern Mozambican coastal town of Palma.

This comes on the back of more than 5,000 people fleeing an attack by a group linked to ISIS making their way to safety elsewhere in northern Mozambique, while a small group of victims arrived by boat in neighboring Tanzania.

New UK study reveals that less than half of Brits following self-isolation rules

Less than half of Brits are following self-isolation rules, according to a new study published in the British Medical Journal.


The report also found only half of people in the UK know the main Covid-19 symptoms, whilst fewer than one in five are requesting a Covid test if they experience those symptoms.

FRANCE PREPARES FOR NEW LOCKDOWN

An exodus from French cities is expected over the coming days ahead of a new covid-19 lockdown for the country.

Travel restrictions are being put in place, but the government will allow people the Easter weekend to get to where they then want to spend lockdown.

Schools are closing for at least three weeks, and all non-essential shops will close from Saturday.

India expands vaccination drive as cases surge

India has opened up its immunisation drive to anyone above the age of 45 even as the country reported the biggest single jump in confirmed cases in six months on Thursday.

Japan announces new coronavirus measures as country faces fourth wave

The Japanese government has issued a designation allowing three prefectural governments to take stricter measures against the spread of coronavirus.

Australia – Major music festival cancelled 24 hours before opening.

One of the worlds most celebrated music festivals, the Byron Bay Blues Festival on the far north coast of New South Wales has been cancelled for the second year in a row, after a locally transmitted case of covid 19 was discovered on Tuesday.


Festival organisers said in a statement the New South Wales Minister for Health Brad Hazzard has signed a health order cancelling the event.
