The UK and European Union will be holding talks to resolve trade issues between Britain and Northern Ireland. 

Checks on goods were suspended on Tuesday over threats to staff.

Olympic organizers reveal 'playbook' for Tokyo Games

UK PM calls for "urgent action" from EU amid vaccine row and Brexit protocols

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has called for "urgent action" from the European Union to resolve what he calls "outstanding problems" with the post-Brexit deal. 


His comments come a week after the EU controversially triggered Article 16 of the Northern Ireland Protocol, overriding part of the Brexit arrangement so that the bloc could implement export controls on COVID vaccines.

Armed gunmen kill 21, kidnap 40 in northern Nigeria


At least 20 people have been reportedly killed and 40 more kidnapped in an attack in Niger State, Northcentral Nigeria.

The activities of armed men and kidnappers have continued in Nigeria despite the government's efforts to stamp them out.

French president promises vaccine for all French adults "by the end of the summer"

The French president has promised a Covid-19 vaccine "for all French adults who want one by the end of the summer".

UK WELCOMES OXFORD TRANSMISSION DATA

New research showing the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine reduces the transmission of coronavirus is being hailed as 'superb news' by the UK government.

Up until now little's been known about how effective the vaccines are at preventing transmission - on top of cutting severe illness and mortality.

But scientists at the University of Oxford found the jab appears to have a "substantial effect" on the spread - raising hopes over the lifting of Covid restrictions.

The new data also shows the Oxford vaccine offered 76% effective protection for three months after a single dose.

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock says the information has flowed from backing the clinical trials.

Hong Kong lockdowns find no new COVID-19 cases

The Hong Kong government is continuing to defend its surprise COVID-19 lockdown strategy, despite the operation uncovering no new cases for a second day in a row. 

Some health experts say the lockdowns are a waste of resources, but the government says it's planning more in the coming days.

Biden pays tribute to FBI agents shot dead on duty

US President Joe Biden has paid tribute to two FBI agents who were killed while serving a search warrant in Florida.


Three more were injured in one of the deadliest shootings in the bureau's history. Until Tuesday, no agent had been shot and killed on duty since 2008.
