UK WELCOMES OXFORD TRANSMISSION DATA

New research showing the Oxford-AstraZeneca vaccine reduces the transmission of coronavirus is being hailed as 'superb news' by the UK government.

Up until now little's been known about how effective the vaccines are at preventing transmission - on top of cutting severe illness and mortality.

But scientists at the University of Oxford found the jab appears to have a "substantial effect" on the spread - raising hopes over the lifting of Covid restrictions.

The new data also shows the Oxford vaccine offered 76% effective protection for three months after a single dose.

UK Health Secretary Matt Hancock says the information has flowed from backing the clinical trials.
