S. Korea holds massive college entrance exam amid pandemic

Nearly half a million high school seniors are taking South Korea's college entrance exam amid growing coronavirus concerns. That includes around 35 Covid-19 patients and more than 400 students in self-quarantine.

U.S. stocks struggle for direction with stimulus again in focus

There was little change for the major U.S. indexes Wednesday after the Nasdaq and S&P 500 notched record highs the day before.

But it was a good day of trading for Pfizer after the UK became the first nation to approve its vaccine.

US House expected to pass bill that could block Chinese firms from US markets

The US House of Representatives is expected to pass legislation on Wednesday that could prevent some Chinese companies from listing their shares in the US.


The bipartisan bill will require foreign companies to open their books and prove they are not under government control.

First Boeing 737 Max with passengers since grounding

U.S. hits highest number of coronavirus deaths since April

The U.S. has hit nearly 2600 coronavirus deaths in a single day- the highest rate since April- as the country grapples with an alarming surge.

The latest death toll from COVID-19 coincides with the highest day in hospitalizations the US has witnessed since the pandemic began.


And most Americans will have to wait until 2021 to get a vaccine.

UN to get access to Ethiopia’s’ Northern region


The United Nations says it will now be able to secure humanitarian access to Ethiopia's Northern Tigray region where there's been fighting between government and regional forces since 4th November.


It says it has signed a deal with Ethiopia's government to allow "unimpeded" humanitarian access to the embattled Tigray region.

France to clamp down on Christmas skiing holidays abroad

France is going to bring in random borders checks to dissuade people from going to countries where ski resorts remain open.

Pistes are closed in France and the government doesn't want citizens going overseas for festive holidays this year.

Ethiopia TPLF member surrenders

The government of Ethiopia says that one of the top members of the Tigray People Liberation Front, the political party that it is fighting in the North - has surrendered.

 

Keria Ibrahim was one of the 9 executive members of the political outfit that prime minister Abiy Ahmed's government now considers a criminal group. 

He has accused them of going against the constitution and the regional forces in the country's north, of attempting to rob the country's National barracks.

Hong Kong activist Joshua Wong jailed over 2019 protest

Hong Kong's most prominent democracy activist Joshua Wong has been jailed for 13.5 months for his role in unauthorised anti-government protests last year. His fellow activists Agnes Chow and Ivan Lam have been given shorter sentences.
