Oxford University develops "a vaccine for the world" -- up to 90% effective

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has welcomed the "incredibly exciting news" that the coronavirus vaccine developed by the University of Oxford is "clearly effective."

 

Overall results of the large trial show 70% protection against Covid-19, but the researchers say the figure may be as high as 90%.

Corruption trial begins of former French president Nicolas Sarkozy

OXFORD VACCINE 'UP TO 90% EFFECTIVE'

The Oxford-AstraZeneca Covid-19 vaccine is up to 90% effective at preventing the virus, according to latest results.

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson says it's 'incredibly exciting news'.

The vaccine had 90% efficacy when people were given half a dose at first, followed by a full dose a month later.

Although it's not as effective as Pfizer and Moderna vaccines according to these results - it is easier to store and distribute.

Health Secretary Matt Hancock says regulators will now look into whether the vaccine can be approved for use with the dosing method that produces the best results.

US markets weekahead: rising Covid numbers, vaccines news, jobs data and consumer confidence

In the week ahead on Wall Street, investors will be hedging positive developments on the Covid-19 vaccine front against the second wave of the pandemic, as rates of infection, hospitalisations and deaths spike across the country.


But economic data will also factor in, as investors look to weekly jobless claims and the consumer confidence survey to gauge the health of the economy.
