[Preview] Wall St eyes jobs data and consumer prices

[Preview] Traders will be eyeing US consumer price data in the coming
week, along with more signs of the health of the labor market.

It follows data last week that showed the unemployment rate has fallen
below 10% for the first time since the start of the pandemic in March.

Trump Denies Calling US Soldiers "Losers"

WHO warns Covid-19 vaccine may not be ready til 'mid-2021'

The World Health Organization has warned that a coronavirus vaccine may not be readily available until mid-2021. 

The WHO is urging wealthier nations to join its COVAX facility, which aims to ensure fair distribution of a vaccine with lower income countries.

Former Australian PM Tony Abbott -- accused of sexist comments -- appointed to UK Board of Trade

Former Australian Prime Minister Tony Abbott has been given a top job advising the British government on trade, despite being condemned by several MPs for allegedly homophobic and sexist remarks.


Mr Abbott will now sit on the UK Board of Trade, set up to help with new post-Brexit deals with countries around the world.

Protests grow, officers suspended, over Daniel Prude killing

Protestors have clashed with police in the city of Rochester, New York, following the release of a video showing the arrest of Daniel Prude, a black man who was killed in police custody.

Police in Portland fatally shoot man accused of killing right wing protester

Police have fatally shot a man in Portland, Oregon while trying to arrest him for the killing of a right wing protester.

US adds 1.4m jobs as jobless rate falls below 10%

The US economy added 1.4 million jobs in the last month, a sign that
employers are rehiring workers previously laid off due to COVID-19.

The Lancet publishes Russian vaccine data

International medical journal the Lancet has published peer-reviewed data from Russia's vaccine clinical trial. The results found antibodies in 100% of those vaccinated, with no adverse side effects. Julia Chapman has more.

New stats show levelling off of Covid-19 cases in England

Just 0.05% of people in England had coronavirus between 19th-25th August, according to the Office for National Statistics, part of the UK Statistics Authority. 


The ONS estimates cases there were around 2000 new Covid-19 cases per day in the community in England over that same period, a levelling off after a small increase in July.

TRANSPORT MINISTER ADMITS QUARANTINE RULES FOR UK ARRIVALS "CONFUSING"

UK Transport Secretary, Grant Shapps, admits the quarantine rules for people entering the UK from abroad have become "confusing".

The four nations of the UK - England, Wales, Scotland and Northern Ireland make their own judgement on the risk of contracting coronavirus abroad.

Now some countries deemed high-risk by one nation are not deemed high-risk by another, meaning returning travellers may have to quarantine if returning to Scotland but not if returning to England.

UK GOVT UNDER FIRE OVER INTERNATIONAL TRAVEL

The UK government is admitting quarantine rules for international arrivals have become 'confusing' with England, Northern Ireland, Wales and Scotland imposing different restrictions.

England and Northern Ireland are still allowing quarantine-free arrival from Portugal, while Scotland and Wales are requiring isolation.

Travel bosses are also criticising the government for not bringing in testing on arrival at ports and airports.

Detained Australian Writer Charged with Spying by China Says he's Innocent

The Australian writer - Yang Hengjun - that's been detained by Chinese authorities for 18 months and charged with espionage says he won't make a false confession.
