George Floyd protests continue in US for 5th day

The United States is going into the fifth night of protests following
the death of an unarmed African American at the hands of white police
officers in Minneapolis on Monday.

George Floyd's death has sparked outrage across the US with protests
in some major cities turning violent.

Protesters were out in Washington DC on Saturday to voice their anger
at President Donald Trump who they say has tweeted inflammatory
remarks that have incited violence and done little to calm the
tensions.

Several hundred arrested in New York protests

Thousands of people in New York have taken to the streets protesting
the death of George Floyd.

The police say more than 200 people were arrested during Friday's protests.

Trump ends special Hong Kong treatment over Beijing security law

US President Donald Trump has announced he's eliminating America's
preferential treatment of Hong Kong following China's decision to
impose a new security law on the city.

In a list of actions against Beijing he said he would sanction any
officials he deemed were "eroding Hong Kong's autonomy", and stop
certain Chinese nationals entering the US.

He also terminated relations with the World Health Organization.

Minneapolis police officer faces 3rd degree murder charge in George Floyd killing

The police officer accused by protestors  of killing George Floyd, an unarmed black man in the city of Minneapolis on Monday has been arrested and charged with 3rd degree murder.


Derek Chauvin was filmed with his knee pressed against Mr. Floyd's neck, as Mr. Floyd told him he couldn't breathe.

UK FINANCE MINISTER LAYS OUT PLANS TO END FURLOUGH SCHEME

The UK chancellor says the Government's furlough scheme will be phased out, month-by-month, until the end of October.

The Government currently pays 80% of an employee's wage.

But come September businesses will have to pay 10%, and by October, 20%, before it ends.

7 people shot in Louisville during protests against police shooting


Seven people have been shot in the U.S. city of Louisville [PRON Loo-ee-vil] during protests over the fatal shooting of African American Breonna Taylor. 

It was the second major city to see unrest overnight in relation to black citizens killed by police officers, as demonstrators in Minneapolis again called for justice for George Floyd.

U.S. consumer spending tumbles record 13.6%

Consumer spending in the United States has dropped by a record 13.6%
as the COVID-19 pandemic has kept stores and businesses closed.

It's further evidence the US is experiencing the worst economic

UN Report Pins DR Congo Police

Row between Twitter and President Trump escalates over Minneapolis tweet


Twitter has escalated its row with U.S. President Donald Trump by hiding one of his tweets for the first time, saying it breaks the rules on glorifying violence.

The president warned that “ when the looting starts, the shooting starts, ” in reference to consecutive nights of protests in Minneapolis.

This comes a day after President Trump signed an executive order targeting social media platforms in a bid to stop them curating content.

Monkeys in India attack lab technician and steal blood test samples

In a bizarre incident, a group of monkeys attacked a lab technician from the Meerut Medical College and stole blood samples of some patients collected for routine tests.

The incident comes at a time when India has ramped up its testing for coronavirus, with more than a 100,000 tests taking place per day.

U.S. ROCKED BY FLOYD PROTESTS

The U.S. has been rocked by a third night of protests over the death of an unarmed black man, George Floyd, in police custody. 

Footage shows a police officer kneeling on the neck of Floyd, despite him saying he couldn't breathe.

Arson and looting broke out as demonstrations continued in cities, including Minneapolis, where a police station was set alight. 


Donald Trump branded the protestors "thugs" and threatened to bring in the national guard. 

United States Attorney for the District of Minnesota Erica McDonald calls for restraint.


UK could offer 'path to citizenship' for Hong Kong's British passport holders

The UK could offer British National passport holders in Hong Kong a path to UK citizenship if China does not suspend plans for a security law in the territory. 


It comes after China's parliament backed proposal that would make it a crime to undermine Beijing's authority. There are fears the legislation could end Hong Kong's "unique" status.

Renault to restructure factories and make worldwide job cuts

India counters Trump claim of talking to Modi on China

Weeks after Indian and Chinese troops faced off in the Ladakh region of northern India- that stand-off is showing no signs of easing.

UK REGIONS EASE LOCKDOWNS


The UK is moving into the next phases of its Covid-19 lockdown restrictions.

In Scotland, people from two different households can now meet up outdoors.

In England, small groups of people will also be allowed to get together outside from Monday.

It follows the government saying it's five key tests have been met to allow the easing of some restrictions - including falling daily fatalities.

Professor Stephen Reicher - who's one of the subcommittees of scientists advising the UK governmemnt - says it's a cautious approach.
