British Government in Second Attempt at Brexit Vote

The British Government says it will make a second attempt to hold a meaningful vote on Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Brexit deal on Monday.

This after a vote had been meant to take place on Saturday, but beforehand lawmakers backed an amendment requiring all Brexit legislation to be passed ahead of full approval being given, and therefore forcing the UK Prime Minister to ask the EU for an extension.

But the decision on whether the vote can go ahead Monday will be down to the Speaker of the House of Commons.

The Prime Minister reached an agreement with Brussels last week but it needs to be ratified by the UK Parliament.

UK Prime Minster Forced to Ask EU for Brexit Extension

UK Prime Minister Boris Johnson has been forced to ask the EU for an extension to the Brexit deadline, following a vote in parliament in favour of an amendment to his deal.

The so-called Letwin amendment is an insurance policy, where MPs will withhold support for the Prime Minister's deal until Brexit legislation is delayed.

The Prime Minister insists he will introduce this legislation in the British Parliament next week.

DEBATE UNDERWAY IN UK PARLIAMENT OVER BREXIT DEAL

The UK Parliament is expected to vote later (on Saturday) on British Prime Minister Boris Johnson's Brexit Deal.

The agreement, struck in Brussels this week, has removed the controversial Irish backstop, but replaced it with a customs border in the Irish Sea, between Northern Ireland and the rest of the UK. Something that many MPs feel is unacceptable.

Mr Johnson doesn't have a working majority in Parliament and is therefore looking for support from across the benches.

But before the vote though, there will be a series of amendments, one of which has the potential of derailing the voting process.

US imposes record $7.5 billion tariffs on European goods

The U.S. has imposed tariffs on $7.5billion on EU goods  -- making a long list of Europe-made goods subject to a 25% tariff.  It is the result of a 15-year battle over aircraft subsidies, paid by the EU to Airbus which have been ruled illegal by the  World Trade Organization. Those that are affected may represent a small fraction of EU imports -- but suppliers and buyers are justifiably concerned.
